St. Louis County Chief Fitch Wants Cell Phone Companies to Disable Stolen Phones

(KTVI) - Recently, St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch tweeted:

Last year, 1.6 million Americans were victims of cell phone thefts last year, costing consumers more than $30 billion.  Thieves call it "apple picking."

Recently at a cell phone summit, law enforcement officials around the country urged cell phone makers to create new technology to permanently disable the phones to make them useless to thieves -- a built-in kill switch.
