ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- You might want to think twice the next time your doctor offers a prescription for pain pills.

The CDC found a skyrocketing death rate among women getting hooked on prescription medicine.

Bobette Figler is a counselor with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. She's also in recovery.

She mixed alcohol with prescription medicine years ago, after a misdiagnosis.

The study found women are more likely than men to pill shop. That means going doctor to doctor, so no one doctor can recognize the addiction.
