(KTVI)-Parents will spend a lot of time in the hospital when they have a sick child. One family is trying to make that process easier. The Ortyl family spent a lot of time at St. Louis Children’s Hospital when their son, Oakes, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. They founded The Mighty Oakes Foundation in 2011. It focuses on helping families cope with the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects.

Upcoming Events:

  • Sept 28: MOHF 5K & 1Mile Fun Run
  • Nov 16: MOHF Heart Gala

Also, Mighty Oakes is up for a "Rare Life Honor” award. The contest being put on by Eagle Rare Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey encourages you to vote for stories that inspire you.  The Grand winner will win $40,000 to their charity.

The contest runs until January 7, 2014 and people can vote every 24 hours until then. You don't have to register to vote, you just click a button, it really takes just 30 seconds!
