(KTVI) -   If you need a quick cheap vacation before schools tarts, the sky's the limit in Illinois.  You can check out the Captain Andy's parasail in Grafton and more.

Illinois State Travel director Jen Hoelzle talks about some fun summer getaway ideas to enjoy in Illinois.

• Heart of Illinois Fair - one of the largest fairs in Illinois, this Peoria event is packed with festivities for everyone.  A BBQ cook-off contest, live auto racing, livestock judging contests, art exhibits and tons of family activities.  Runs from July 12 - 20th.

• History Comes Alive and Bloomington Civil War Days - for the history buffs visitors should head over to the Springfield/Bloomington area. In Springfield, Lincoln era re-enactors stroll through historic sites and educate visitors on all things Lincoln.  And in Bloomington, on July 20-21, sites throughout the area will host Civil War re-enactors.

• Centralia Balloon Fest - Everyone loves watching hot air balloons - and this festival in Southern Illinois is a perfect family event with entertainment, kids activities, fireworks and a car show.  It takes place August 2 - 3.

• Tall Ships - the majestic international fleet of Tall Ships are back at Navy Pier in Chicago from August 7 - 11.  Visitors can walk the grounds to view 14 tall ships, hop aboard for a dockside tour and get a taste of life at sea with a sail-away cruise on select Tall Ships.
