ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- The intense summer heat causes the St. Louis fire chief to order his battalion chiefs to call in extra crews no matter how big the fire is.

They want to do everything they can to keep firefighters healthy.

Crews are loading ice and water onto trucks.

They break out in a heavy sweat just putting on all their gear as they head to a fire.

They wear up to 60 pounds of equipment, as they battle the heat of the flames and the day.
