DALLAS, TX – Doctors at Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, Texas say country singer Randy Travis is awake and stabilized. Last week Travis had an emergency surgery to relieve pressure in his brain following a stroke. Doctors say Travis has what’s called idiopathic cardiomyopathy, which means he has scarring of his heart muscle that is causing his heart to be weak.

Doctors say drugs or alcohol does not cause the heart condition. Doctors say Travis does have a family history of cardiomyopathy.

Travis is breathing spontaneously with the help of a ventilator, but doctors in dallas hope to have him weaned off the device soon and breathing on his own.

Doctors say brain scans show decreased swelling in his brain.

Travis’ fiancee was at the press conference and thanked everyone for their support.
