(KTVI) - Family and friends are preparing to say goodbye to a nine-year-old boy who was shot and killed last week while riding in a car with his father.

Visitation for Tyrese Short is Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Friendly Temple Church on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.  The funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m.

On Tuesday night, Tyrese's pastor set down with Mandy Murphey to speak on behalf of the child's mother and family.

Reverend Felix Gibson described Tyrese as a happy child who was full of life.  He shared picture so Tyrese and his mother, Tache.  The two lived in Texas. Tyrese was spending the summer with his father, Tyrone,  in St. Louis.  The two were riding in a car on Goodfellow in North St. Louis at 3:30 a.m. when someone opened fire on them, hitting Tyrese.

Reverend Gibson responded to questions about why a nine-year-old was out at that time of morning.

The family has set up a donation fund to help with funeral expenses. You can donate to that fund at any PNC Bank.
