ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- A picnic in Hyde Park in north city brought St. Louis police officers and community members together.

For St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Sam Dotson, the simple act of enjoying lunch with residents of the north city community is an invaluable resource.

As neighborhood children sat inside an actual St. Louis swat team truck or peeked inside a St. Louis police helicopter, members of the community agreed with Chief Dotson.

In the wake of public tension caused by the Trayvon Martin court case, and the multiple smash and grab robberies in the city this month, Chief Dotson believes this socializing between the community and police cannot come at a better time.
