PESHAWAR, Pakistan (CNN) — Fifteen militants and four soldiers were killed in an operation to clear militant areas near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, Pakistan’s military said Saturday.

Since the operation began Friday, soldiers cleared “scores” of militant hideouts in a region called Kharmatung, which lies between Khyber Agency and Frontier Region Kohat, the military said.

Khyber sits along the country’s border with Afghanistan and the area has long been a haven and transit point for militants.
