Cards Pound Phils 11-3

Shane Robinson capped a five run 5th inning with a bases clearing triple to key the Cardinals 11-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium. Jake Westbrook pitched seven innings, allowing three runs, but picked up his second straight victory after the All-Star break. The win raises Westbrook’s season record to 7-4.

Offensively, the Cardinals pounded out 16 hits. Shane Robinson and Yadier Molina led the way with three hits apiece. Matt Carpenter, Allen Craig and Matt Adams had two hits each. 29 year old rookie Brock Peterson got his 1st Major League hit in the 8th inning which also drove in a run.

Lance Lynn will pitch for the Cardinals on Thursday as they go for the series sweep of the Phillies. Pittsburgh won their game on Wednesday night, so the Redbirds division lead remains at a game and a half over the 2nd place Pirates.
