Human remains found near former butcher shop in St. Francois County

ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI)-- Police are investigating after adult human remains were found in a septic tank on Highway K in St. Francois County.

According to the St. Francois County Coroner James Coplin, the body was found around 11 a.m. Thursday just northeast of Bonne Terre.

Police say the discovery is the culmination of a 7-month missing person investigation involving Federal, State and local Law Enforcement agencies.

Names are not being released at this time, pending notification of family members

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.

The homeowner told FOX 2 he bought the property a few months ago and had not moved in.

Neighbors told FOX 2 a previous owner had a butcher shop in the barn next to the home.
