New Orleans, LA (WGNO) — Police across the nation are warning gas station customers to keep a close eye out for ‘sliders’ who sneak in and steal items out of cars while their owners are pumping gas.

It happens in an instant: thieves will pull up next to someone – usually a woman – pumping gas, wait for the right moment to open the passenger door, and then snatch her purse.

The victim has no idea what’s going on until it’s too late.
