Failing East St. Louis School Board out-smarts state of Illinois

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI)-- The You Paid For It team getting answers on why the troubled East St Louis School Board is still in office despite the state of Illinois pledging to throw the board members out.

The state education department decided to oust the East St Louis School Board a year ago because the abysmal test scores, the boards waste of money on consultants, high administrative salaries and board members hiring dozens of their relatives.

State officials called the East St Louis School Board a disaster for students. Saying there was no way for things to get any better for students with the current board.

But the head of the East St Louis School Board, Lonzo Greenwood, went to the St Clair County Court to get an injunction to block the state from throwing out him and other board members. The case just sat idle in court until the state ultimately decided to surrender and just leave the East St Louis School Board in place.

You Paid For It Investigator Elliott Davis went to Springfield to catch up with the head of the state education commission to find out why Illinois ran up the white flag.
