Police: Suspect breaks officer’s hand and pulls out a gun

PINE LAWN, MO (KTVI)-- A Pine Lawn police officer is recovering from injuries he suffered during a traffic stop that resulted in a fight.

The suspect, Dwayne Johnson, is accused of punching Officer Ben Petrov and pulling out a gun.

"I got dizzy and say stars and then we were in a struggle," Officer Petrov said. "And he pulled a weapon out of his waistband."

Officer Petrov broke his hand during the fight.

"There were a lot of punches thrown, so I am not sure when I broke my hand," he said.

Officer Petrov was able to take the gun away from Johnson, according to the Pine Lawn Police Department.

"I just wanted everyone to go home alive," he said. "I feared for my life, but I did not want to have to shoot him.

Johnson is charged with assault on an officer, resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon.
