Man steals from Social Security while in prison

BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI) – Douglas Buckman, 39, of Belleville, IL has been convicted of theft from the Social Security Administration.

Buckman was in prison for a state criminal conviction when he continued to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits from January 2009 to June 2011, although he was not eligible to due so.

Buckman pled guilty on May 13, 2013 for stealing $20,220 in fraudulent SSI payments during that period of time. He was sentenced Friday in the U.S. District Court in East St. Louis to 18 months federal prison and three years supervised release. He is also ordered to pay back the $20,220 to the SS Administration.
