Roxana student approached by man in ski-mask

ROXANA, IL (KTVI) – Police are looking for a man they say approached a Central Elementary School while wearing a black ski mask. The student was approached by the suspect while walking a dog in Roxana park on Wednesday at around 8:30pm.  The student then ran towards homes with a street light. hen the student turned around, the suspect was headed in the other direction.

The School District sent this letter parents to warn them about the incident.

Roxana School District was made aware of an incident involving a student from Central Elementary.  The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 4th at approximately 8:30pm in Roxana Park located east of Central

Elementary.  The student was approached by an individual dressed in dark clothing and wearing a ski mask.  The student followed correct safety procedures and immediately contacted his parent, who then contacted the Roxana Police Department.

As always, we will maintain strict safety procedures for our students and staff.  All staff is aware of this situation, and will follow proper protocol when supervising students while in school and at recess.

It is important that you speak to your children about how to respond in a situation of this nature so they have strategies to use if confronted by a stranger.
