The Fighting Illini football team suffered their first loss of the season, dropping a 34-24 decision to Washington at Soldier Field in Chicago on Saturday night.

The Illini kept things close with the 19th ranked Huskies, trailing just 10-3 at halftime. Washington would build a 31-10 lead, but still Illinois would not go away. Nathan Scheelhaase’s 72 yard TD bomb pass to Ryan Lankford cut the lead to 31-17. After Aaron Bailey’s ten yard touchdown run, the Washington lead had shrunk to 31-24. But the Illini could get no closer.

Illinois will take their 2-1 record back to Champaign for a game next Saturday with Miami of Ohio.
