Pedestrian struck on St. Clair Avenue

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, IL. (KTVI) – Just before 2 pm Saturday, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on St. Clair Avenue, near I-255.  Illinois State Police say 37-year-old Gary H. Mayweathers walked into the eastbound lane of  traffic on St. Clair Avenue, just west I-255, directly into the path of Mazda 6 being driven by Alexander T. Ryan of St. Louis.

Ryan, 33, swerved to left trying to avoid Mayweathers, but was unable to avoid hitting Mayweathers.

Mayweathers was transported to St. Louis University Hospital in critical condition.

The driver, Alexander Ryan was not cited for the accident.  ISP says Mayweathers was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident.
