ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A major highway shut down is coming Friday for drivers in the Metro East.

There certainly has been a lot of work going on around the I-55/70/64 split and this weekend, there will be even more.  Starting Friday night at 9 p.m., all westbound lanes of 55/70 will be closed from Illinois 203, right by the Gateway Motor Speedway, to the 55/70/64 split.

All lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday. The interstate is closing so the westbound lanes can be resurfaced.  The way to get around it will be to take I-255 South to I-64 west back to I-55/70.  If you are traveling in Illinois this weekend, keep in mind that I-64 is still closed in both directions from the split to 25th Street.

That closure is also supposed to reopen on Monday.
