Rolla firefighter killed in accident on I-44

ROLLA, MO (KTVI)– A Rolla firefighter has died as a result of a single vehicle accident on Interstate 44 near Jerome on Thursday.

The accident occurred as Steve Huffman was traveling eastbound on I-44 and traveled off the left side of the road into the median. Huffman over-corrected, returned to the median, then ran off the south side of I-44 and rolled several times down a steep embankment

Steve was a resident of the Doolittle Community and proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and past board member of the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District. Steve was employed by the City of Rolla Fire & Rescue for over 19 years and currently served as an Engineer. Steve served as the President of the International Association of Firefighters Local 3905 and was a charter member.

Funeral services for Steve Huffman will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the James and Gahr funeral home in Rolla, MO with Rev. Ron Smith, Assistant Fire Chief officiating. A full fire department service will be provided with interment at the Roach Cemetery in Doolittle. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 3-6 PM.
