Cards Win Again, Magic Number is 1!

Matt Adams cranked a first inning home run and got the Cardinals off to a quick start en route to a 7-2 win over the Brewers in Milwaukee on Saturday night. With the victory, the Cards reduced their magic number to make the playoffs to just one. That means on Sunday, either a Cardinals win or a Washington Nationals loss ensures a playoff spot for St. Louis.

In Saturday’s win, Lance Lynn pitched into the 7th inning, allowing just one run to earn the win. Lynn’s season record in now 14-10. David Freese and Daniel Descalso each drove in two runs during a decisive five run 8th inning.

In the NL Central division race, the Pirates beat the Reds on Saturday night. So the Cardinals lead the Pirates by two games and the Reds by three games with just seven games remaining in the regular season.
