(KTVI) - If you drive on Washington Avenue near the Archgrounds, you will need to take an alternate route starting Monday morning.

The are being impacted by the closure is at Memorial Drive and Washington Avenue. MoDOT will close Washington Avenue both ways between Memorial and 2nd Street for about a month.

That is basically the stretch of Washington Avenue right by the Eads Bridge and Laclede's Landing.  The work is part of the park over the highway project and CityArch 2015.

That overall project is designed to improve access between downtown St. Louis, I-17 and the Arch. It includes a pedestrian bridge over I-70 so people can get to the Arch easier.

By the end of November, Washington between Memorial and 2nd will be one way.  MoDOT says drivers will be able to turn right from Memorial onto eastbound Washington to get to the parking garage on the north side of the Arch.

But after the closure, westbound Washington Avenue between 2nd and Memorial will be permanently shut down.
