CREVE COEUR, MO (KTVI) - Police in Creve Coeur are investigating a side by side smash and grab.

Authorities were called just before 7:00 a.m. Monday to 11000 Olive at Graeser in Creve Coeur.  The building houses Pumpernickles and Jet's Pizza.

The glass in both doors were smashed.  They pried open the cash registers, and they got away with nothing.   Harlan Levin owns Pumpernickles. He says, “When you got the world’s best knishes they want to get in before you open what can tell you.”  He tried to make the best of a bad situation.

Police were on the scene early Monday morning, the deli and pizza place are next door to each other. There was no cash in the deli’s register.  These days most customers use credit or debit cards.  And they got nothing at Jet’s Pizza because it doesn’t open for business until Friday. Pumpernickles was open in time for customers for breakfastand the general manager of Jet’s says this crime won’t stop them from opening on time later this week.  Harlan Levin said, “I don’t know how you stop thembut they’re nuts. Life’s too short. They must be very boring people if they’re out doing this. I can’t figure it out. They got a screw loose, I don’t know."

Hass Jackson the general manager at Jet’s said, “We’ll still open Friday, open for business.” The owner of the deli estimates damages will run around $500. He’s thankful no one at his business was hurt. Police have few leads and little to go on.
