ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- Some Cardinals fans feel connected to their team.  In the case of Ann Seeney, she`s a fan and the human resources director for the St. Louis Cardinals.   That connection makes watching the games even more nerve rattling.

"It`s amplified for us," said Seeney.

She was part of a front-office watch party at Busch Stadium Wednesday, while the Cardinals played game 5 of the NLCS in Los Angeles.

"This is serious business," she said.

Some employees were growing playoff beards.  Some wore the same socks they wore the night before for good luck.

"We have our superstitions," said Seeney.

Fans were also trying any bit of good luck magic they could muster at Friendly`s Sports Bar and Grill in south St. Louis.  The Cardinals have made the playoffs in 10 of the last 14 years.

"I don`t know what we would think if we didn`t make it," said owner Denny Domachowski.

Fans watched from 40 different televisions as the Cardinals ninth inning rally fell short.

"I still believe this team will win," said one fan.

Others remembered how the team lost 3 straight in the NLCS last year to the San Francisco Giants.

"Enough of the rookies on this team were not here for the collapse last year," said Cardinals fan David King. "That`s a good thing."

Another fan said he likes the team`s chances because he`s seen them bounce back before.

"They keep coming back and coming back," he said.  "They`re going to win."
