VALLEY PARK, MO. (KTVI) - For all of her hard work, a Valley Park school teacher got a special 'thank you' that was worth $1,000. Marianne Wecker won the 'Peabody Energy Leader in Education Award' for her work with the sixth-grade class at Valley Park middle school.

One of her former students is now an eighth-grader.  He told the audience that Wecker was special, because she helped him read on a high-school level.

Wecker`s husband was also in the audience; he said it was tough to keep the secret for the past three days.
