FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL (KTVI) - A Metro East family already grieving the loss of a loved one is  now dealing with a heartless crime at the young mother's funeral service.

Someone allegedly stole donations meant for the woman's daughter.   The funeral was being held at the First Baptist Church on Lincoln Trail in Highway 159 in Fairview Heights Saturday.  Police say donations were stolen during the funeral.

Krystle Flaherty from Swansea was 28 years old. Investigators say the donation box was set up inside the church by Flaherty's family members.  Authorities say the money was for a trust fund for Flaherty's three-year-old daughter.

When the mass ended, police say Krystle's family members discovered that the donations, checks and cash, were stolen from the box with the exception of just one check for $50.

It is unclear just how much money was in the box. Whatever the case, police and Krystle's family want to find whoever is responsible. If you have any information, call the Fairview Heights Police at (618) 489-2100

If you want to help the family, you can send donations to the three-year-old's trust fund at The Bank of Belleville, 720 West Main Street in Belleville, IL 62220.
