ALTON, IL (KTVI)-- A man is in critical condition after being shot by an Alton police officer.

The officer found the suspect during a call for shots fired in the area of McClure and Harriett Street.

When the officer ordered him on the ground, the officers say the suspect drew the weapon, and the officer fired.

The initial investigation shows that the weapon is actually an airsoft gun that looks identical to a glock semi automatic handgun.

The case remains under investigation.
