CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI)-- West County citizens and firefighters in the Monarch Fire Protection District are concerned over spending on legal bills by the district's board of directors.

Monarch is on pace to double last year’s legal bills.

The board began using more lawyers after Jane Cunningham came to the board and changed the balance of power on the board of directors.

The new board majority ousted the old attorney that had charged you $86,000 last year and instead began using the two attorneys the last board majority had gotten rid of.

The two attorneys together had contributed almost $5,000 to board President Robin Harris's election campaign.

He insists that had nothing to do with the reason the district started using them again.

Russ Lake of the citizens group Monarch Residents for Truth calls the legal bills, ridiculous.
