ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - He is the unofficial Mayor of the Delmar Loop. Joe Edward's vision transformed that part of U-City into one of America's best streets. Now Joe Edwards can add author to his resume. He's written a new book about the St. Louis Walk of Fame that's on Delmar.
The book is called St. Louis Walk of Fame: 140 Great St. Louisans and it is being released right in time for the holiday season. The book focuses on the 140 great people who have made significant contributions to St. Louis, the nation and the world.
Those mentioned in the book come from various occupations including entertainment, broadcasting, statesmanship, aviation, civil rights, exploration, politics, journalism, literature, music, science and education, city founders, disability rights, military and even the U.S. presidency.
Qualifications for being on the Walk of Fame include being born in the St. Louis region or having spent their creative years in the area.
Their accomplishments must have had a national impact on our country's cultural heritage.
The St. Louis Walk of Fame is donating copies to all junior high and high school libraries throughout the greater St. Louis region in Missouri and Illinois, in keeping with its mission of promoting knowledge, education, career inspiration and community pride.
The Walk of Fame features world-renowned St. Louisans such as Chuck Berry, Charles Lindbergh, Dred and Harriett Scott, President Ulysses S. Grant, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and Maya Angelou.
