St. Louis cookbook teaches how to Shop Like a Chef

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Hey St. Louis.  You can now eat your way around the world without ever leaving the area.

The secret is out in this food lover's guide to shopping in St. Louis. The book is called Shop Like a Chef: A Food Lover's Guide to St. Louis Neighborhoods.

Author, Chef Clara Moore, came to the studio to talk about her book.

This book will help you find exactly the ingredient you're looking for with its index of more than 1,000 items.

It features tips on eating better, saving money, and feeling at ease in the region's ethnic grocery stores.

The book encourages readers to go on international adventures within St. Louis.

While at the studio, Chef Moore demonstrated one of her recipes; Madras Potatoes.

The recipe calls for:

2 medium potatoes, boiled and sliced 2 T oil
1 t mustard seeds
1⁄2 t turmeric

1 t ground coriander 1⁄2 t cayenne
1⁄2 t salt
1 c water

2 t lime juice

To prepare the Madras Potatoes:

Heat oil in a sauté pan, add mustard seeds and cook for a few seconds. 

Add potato and remaining spices. Cook for 3 minutes.

Add water while stirring.

Reduce heat, cover, and cook for 5 minutes.

Remove from heat. Stir in lime juice.

Let cool slightly before serving.
