The Cardinals on Wednesday awarded manager Mike Matheny with a three year contract extension. The second year skipper has led his Cardinals teams to back to back playoffs in his first two years at the helm, (2012 NLCS and 2013 World Series). The extension will keep Matheny guiding the Cards through at least 2017. He had a one year option for the 2014 season.

Matheny was beaming at the Wednesday press conference at Busch Stadium, excited to continue managing his hometown team.
