ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- Three armed robberies in just one night have some Central West End residents worried.

The first holdup happened in the 4400 block of Olive at 9:20 P.M. Monday night.

A car with three suspects inside pulled up to a man on the street. One of the suspects jumped out, pulled a gun and demanded the man`s wallet. When the victim said he didn`t have one, the suspects drove off.

Within minutes, a similar scenario happened two blocks away in the 4400 block of McPherson, only this time when the victim said he did not have a wallet, the suspect stole the man`s cell phone and drove away.

The third holdup happened in the 4900 block of McPherson shortly after 2:00 A.M.

In that case, a man and a woman were getting out of an SUV when three suspects drove up.  Two of them held the victims at gunpoint, taking both the man`s wallet and the woman`s purse, hitting both of them in the head with the gun after they had handed over their belongings.

Both had only minor injuries.

Despite the similarities, police are not positive all three
holdups are related.

"It would be nice if they were all three tied together and we could make two arrests and clean them all up," said St. Louis Police Major Michael Caruso. "Right now we have to look at each of them individually because there are differences from crime to crime."

Residents know the occasional street crime is part of city living, but three holdups in a single night have some alarmed.

"I think it is very frightening," said resident Joan Grups. "I worry about it when I take my dog out at night for a walk and sometimes in the early morning when it is still dark," she said.

Police say they are taking these holdups very seriously. Starting Tuesday night, they planned to increase patrols in the Central West End, something they intended to do anyway starting on the holiday weekend.

Police think there is a better than average chance all three holdups may have been caught on tape.

"Private residences have cameras all throughout the residential part of the Central West End and the businesses are very heavily involved with the camera project down there so we have numerous sources of video that we will have to look at through the course of this investigation," said Caruso.

Not all the residents who spoke to Fox 2 News expressed fear in the wake of the robberies.

"I`ve never felt the least bit worried, and I still don`t quite honestly," said Amy Burdge, a dog walker who works in the Central West End.

"I try to keep my wits about me."
