Gov. Quinn ask for disaster declaration for Illinois Counties

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has asked President Obama to declare 15 Illinois counties damaged by tornadoes major disaster areas.

The violent outbreak of tornadoes across the state on November 17th killing six in Illinois and damaging more than 2,400 homes. Nearly 1,000 of those homes are uninhabitable.

Quinn made the request on Monday after teams from state and federal agencies assessed the damage.  If the request is approved, affected homeowners and businesses would be eligible to apply for grants and low-interest loans.
