ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO. (KTVI) – American Water is reporting that some of its customers have been experiencing water problems in south St. Louis County, with complaints of a foul odor or taste of tap water.

A spokesperson for American Water says the cause is the seasonal turning of lakes and river, when cold top layer of a lake or river sinks to the bottom, and the warmer bottom water rises, causing a smell or bitter taste.

The company expects the situation to be resolved by Wednesday or Thursday.

Until then, American Water stresses that the water is safe to drink and use.
