ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- Deep frying that turkey on Thanksgiving might sound like a tasty idea, however it can also be a dangerous one if you`re not careful. A new type of turkey fryer has fire officials worried. St Louis City Fire Chief Dennis Jenkersen says when it comes to electric turkey fryers. He`s not a fan.

"It`s going to happen someone is going to put a turkey in with too much moisture it`s going to boil over even if it has a safety lid it can catch fire. You get that much hot oil going and put turkey and water it`s going to explode," Jenkersen said.

The National Fire Protection association says in 2011 five people were killed, and 60 were injured. 900 homes were also damaged from turkey frying. State Farm ranks Illinois # 2 in the nation when it comes to grease and cooking related claims.
