Ryan Ferguson

(KTVI) – Ryan Ferguson visited Kansas City for the first time to thank supporters and celebrate his freedom.

We were there when Ferguson was set free in Columbia after serving nearly ten years in a Jefferson City prison for the murder of the sports editor at the Columbia Daily Tribune newspaper.

The conviction was vacated in October.

Ryan’s return to Kansas City was promoted on Facebook, and a large crowd turned out. They are helping him celebrate and be thankful for his first Thanksgiving – and even his first time using a smart phone.

After spending about a third of his life in prison, it’s not surprise to hear Ryan say he wants to leave Missouri to start over, “I’m going to be heading down to Florida and getting a job down there and just trying to enjoy life and figure out my place in it. So it’s going to take a little bit of time and a lot of work, but we’re going to get there eventually.”

He says Florida has family and a fresh start.
