ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Missouri Governor Jay Nixon just signed a bill that may give Boeing $1.7 billion in tax incentives. Missouri is competing with about a dozen other states for production of the Boeing 777x, the company's next generation commercial airliner.

Senate Bill 1 passed during the General Assembly special session with a lot of bi-partisan support.  All that support was because of the economic boost Boeing would bring.

A new Boeing assembly plant would create anywhere from 2,000 to 8,000 jobs in the St. Louis area.

Local unions have also agreed to incentives including working three shifts without overtime, speeding construction of buildings required for production of the planes by about 2 years.

Also in hopes of luring Boeing, Monday night, the St. Louis County Council approved $1.8 billion in tax incentives for the company.   Boeing could choose a state to start production in by mid January.

First, he already has signed it as of right now – why no UP TO DATE news here? Second, of COURSE politicians are all falling over themselves to grant Boeing HUGE tax welfare handouts – it’s the very purpose of today’s version of our government, isn’t it, to provide welfare and tax breaks to the richest people and corporations, in the name of “jobs”?? Sure, expanding Medicaid would also have created jobs, and spending on health care or education or nursing homes or just about anything really would also create jobs, but those don’t involve the RICHEST and most PRIVILEGED of Americans stuffing more cash up their already oversize rear ends. Why is it Republicans only think spending money on military waste or big corporate waste creates jobs, while no other spending does? Kickbacks? Corruption? Oh, I’m SURE there is PLENTY of that – Dooley himself is retired from Boeing (probably getting $60,000 a year from that on OUR taxpayer dime, talk about welfare!) So he has an interest in doing this – even more money in HIS pocket. All I can say hopeful here is, I HOPE we DON’T get this plant – let some other state raise their taxes or cut their benefits to pay for yet another corporate welfare handout.

“Government of big corporations, by big corporations, for big corporations.” Our new national motto – like it?
