(KTVI) - The Illinois Department of Transportation spent Friday preparing for a wintry mix that was expected to hit the Metro East. More than 100 trucks filled with salt were on the roads. Officials said they were preparing for snow, sleet and even ice.

"It's important to be safe and make sure that everyone gets where they are going," IDOT's Joe Monroe said.

Monroe told FOX 2 that drivers can judge IDOT's performance based on the clean up after the storm. "That's a good indicator, but it takes time," he said.

Drivers, like Suzanne Olson, said she "hopes" IDOT keeps the roads clear.

"It can be scary, so I hope the roads are good and people drive slow," Olson said.
