ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has charged 23-year-old Rashaad Crawford with first degree murder, two counts of first degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action, in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on November 24, 2013. Crawford is wanted for the homicide of 22-year-old Maurice Miller, Jr. and shooting of two other victims in the 6600 block on Minnesota.

The two other victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds to their faces and arms.

Crawford had been in police custody prior to charges being filed, but was released while warrants were being processed by the circuit attorney’s office.

Police are still uncertain as to what the motive was for the shooting, meanwhile Crawford remains at large.

I am sure that I am not alone in desiring a more thorough explanation as to why this individual was released after being arrested for this murder. There are two surviving witnesses, and previous articles stated that Crawford was on probation for previous weapons violations. What was the problem with holding Rashaad Crawford? Is there some inefficiency in the Circuit Attorney’s office that led to a delay in charges being filed, to the point of requiring the release of this individual? Did the police fail to present evidence properly in some capacity? I encourage the St. Louis media to further investigate this story. A more detailed explanation than that offered in the above article is warranted. This looks like a serious failure to protect the public and apprehend a criminal.
