WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KTVI) - They were celebrating the Japanese New Year at the St. Louis Japanese Language School in Webster Groves Saturday afternoon. Traditional rice cakes were made and shared to spread good fortune for the New Year.

The tradition dates back thousands of years in Japan.

Organizers hope the festival will help share the Japanese culture with students, their families, and the rest of the community.
