HAZELWOOD, MO (KTVI)- What started as an argument in St. Charles County ended in the death of a man early Sunday. Hazelwood Police responded to the 4600 block of Aubuchon Road for a report of a man in a white Ford Expedition wanting to commit suicide.

Officers learned that the man was wanted for Assault 1st Degree after being involved in a fight with a woman in a Wentzville, MO bar earlier in the night. The argument had continued and, sometime around midnight, the man had fired shots at the woman as she attempted to leave. She was not injured.

The man had been last seen driving off the road and into a St. Louis County field. The  St. Louis County Police Department Aviation Unit located the vehicle and police attempted the check on the man. As they approached, he fled from officers, leading them on a 20 to 30 minute off-road pursuit that ended when he drove into a muddy field and got stuck.

The man sustained a self-inflicted gunshot and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man has not yet been identification pending notification of  family.
