The Northwestern Wildcats surprised the Fighting Illini and handed them their second straight Big Ten loss, winning 49-43 on Sunday in Evanston, IL. The Illini dealt with cold shooting in the first half, just 19 percent, falling behind 22-15 at the break.

In the second half, the Illini finally pulled even at 27-27 and 34-34, but when crunch time hit, the Illini shots wouldn’t fall, thus their second straight loss this week. Tracy Abrams led the Illini in scoring with 13 points. The loss drops Illinois to 13-4 on the season overall and a 2-2 mark in Big Ten play.

For new Northwestern coach Chris Collins, it’s his first Big Ten conference victory.
