Autopsy reveals elderly Belleville woman died of hypothermia

BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI) – The body of an elderly woman found behind a Belleville business has been identified. Family members made a positive identification of the body. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Roxie Simpson, 83 died of hypothermia.

A release from the Belleville police department says Simpson had been diagnosed with dementia, lived alone with family nearby. Police believe that she became confused after she walked away from her home alone in the cold weather.

Simpson also suffered fro an injury related to a fall. The body was found in the 1800 block of West Main Street. Detectives do not believe there was any foul play involved in this case.
