CASEYVILLE, ILLINOIS (KTVI)- A few months ago a Caseyville family owned business was riddled with bullets in a robbery . The female owner was hit multiple times. The owner found the strength to survive and says thatday changed her life forever.
The robbery took place last year on November 14th in Caseyville. The robbery went bad and turned into a shooting at Ferguson's TV and VCR Repair Shop on Main Street. The victim was business owner Judy Ferguson . Judy and her husband Bill who own the store say it's still hard for the them to relive what happened. "It was a shock because I had been over there 25-years and never in a community like this did I think it would happen," said Judy. "I'm still in a shock," said her husband Bill.
On that day Judy was sitting in a chair inside the store when the suspect walked in and asked a few questions. Next, Judy she says things changed quickly. The suspect pulled out a handgun and fired 11 shots with 6 of them hitting Judy. "He did think he killed me . I just wonder did he ever stop to think was this worth it,"said Judy.
After the gunman left the store Judy knew she was hit and somehow found the strength to call 911 for help. The bullets went into the top of her arm and came out through the bottom of her arm, her legs and pelvis were fractured . Months later after much pain and long hospital visits Judy's life was changed forever. " I still cant' use my right hand I still need surgery," said the shooting victim.
For years Judy has collected angel statues. In fact, the angels are placed throughout her home. The Ferguson family says they know angels were watching over Judy that day.
Phillip T. smith from East St. Louis was charged with the robbery, discharging a firearm and possession of ammunition by a felon and one count of attempted murder.
