EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI) - Strong wind gusts caused hundreds of power outages across the Metro East Monday morning.

As of 6:00 a.m., Ameren crews said there were more than 160 outages in St. Clair County and 134 in St. Louis County.

At 4:00 a.m. there were more than 600 outages in each county.

The wind gusts started late Sunday night and so did the cold temperatures.

People reported hearing siding on their homes rip off from the wind gusts. They also said that at times it felt like the wind was shaking their homes.

The wind can also cause issues on the roads. The gusts are unpredictable and could push cars off course, so it is important for drivers to keep both hands on the wheel.
