FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL (KTVI) – The body of a man who police say killed his own father was found early Wednesday morning inside a Fairview Heights, Illinois, motel room.

The man was the subject of an intense manhunt when his father was found dead.

The body of Jarad Daughtrey, 36, brought out by authorities shortly before 8:30am Wednesday after he was discovered dead inside one of the motel rooms at the Trailway Motel in Fairview Heights.

Police had been looking for Daughtrey since Tuesday afternoon. That’s when his father, David Daughtrey, 61, was found dead inside the Swansea home where the two lived together.

According to autopsy results, it appears a physical altercation occurred Monday between Jarad and David. The altercation took place in their home and directly contributed to David's death.

The Major Case Squad was called in shortly after David’s body was found.

They released a picture of Jarad Daughtrey calling him a person of interest in the death.
Investigators also said Daughtrey was likely driving his father’s black minivan.

A Fairview Heights police officer spotted the minivan at the motel in the early morning hours. That’s when police, including a SWAT team, moved in, confirmed Daughtrey was there and started talking with him.

“I think it was more along the lines of establishing who everybody is and that basically was just ‘want to speak with you’,” explained Craig Coughlin, the deputy commander of the Major Case Squad.

Tyler Abernathy, who was staying at the motel, says the officers were using a bullhorn, “They were saying ‘Jarad pick up the phone. The police just want to talk to you. You’re not being arrested or anything, just want to talk, we’re here to help’,” said Abernathy.

Investigators say when Daughtrey stopped communicating, police went in and found his body alone in the room.

“This is a very sad state for the family because they’re the victims here and that they have two family members that they’re going to have to lay to rest,” said Coughlin.

A window in the room where Daughtrey was found was broken out.

Authorities told Fox 2/News 11 that a handgun was found in Daughtrey’s room and that he died as a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound.
