(KTVI) – Colleges have been known for lots of weird classes. Who hasn’t made fun of the classic “underwater basket weaving”?

Rutgers University is now receiving criticism for a class where you can study Beyonce. That’s right, get credit for studying an entertainer. reports, the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers is offering a course called “Politicizing Beyonce.” The instructor says she is an example for examining “American race, gender and sexual politics.”

The university also has a class examining the theology of Bruce Springsteen’s lyrics.

Rolling Stone adds, the Beyonce class will look at issues like “the extent of Beyoncé’s control over her own aesthetic” and “whether her often half-naked body is empowered or stereotypical.”
