College Hoops Wrap: Bills Win, Mizzou & Illini Fall

The local college basketball wrap for Saturday, February 1st had the Billikens winning, while Mizzou and the Illini both suffered losses.

The Billikens made it 14 straight wins, but had to work overtime to finally beat George Mason 87-81 at Chiafetz Arena. SLU trailed by seven points in the second half, but got a game tying three pointer from Rob Loe to send the game into OT. Loe then canned two more three pointers to lift the Billikens to their 20th win of the season to go along with just two losses.

Mizzou hosted Kentucky on Saturday at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers fell behind the 11th ranked Wildcats by as many as 16 points, then got as close as just two down. Jabari Brown scored a game high 33 points, while teammate Jordan Clarkson added 28 points. But all the other Tigers could only muster 18 points. Kentucky won the game 84-79. The loss drops Missouri to 16-5 overall and 4-4 in the SEC.

The Illini were looking to avoid their seventh straight loss, playing 15th ranked Iowa in Champaign. The Hawkeyes built a 21 point first half lead on Illinois, but the Illini didn’t crumble. In fact, Illinois took a 66-61 lead with eight minutes to play. Iowa mounted a comeback of their own to win 81-74.
