ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Several homes in a south St. Louis neighborhood were evacuated on Monday morning because of a gas leak. The St. Louis Fire Department says the leak is located around the 3400 block of Macklind. The leak forced 29 people out of 23 homes.
Laclede Gas officials say the leak occurred at around 9am. They determined the levels of natural gas in the area to be dangerous. Laclede Gas is capping the main off at both ends of the street and will then search for the source of the leak.
The St. Louis Fire Department has capped the gas leak. Evacuees are being allowed back into homes. Gas service to be restored by tonight, says Laclede Gas.
