Roommate identified as suspect in Cahokia sex offender’s murder

CAHOKIA, IL (KTVI) – The Major Case Squad has identified a suspect in the murder of a Cahokia man.  St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department’s Deputies found William Harriel Jr. with a gunshot to the head on Thursday.  Mohammed Abuharba, 21, has been charged with charged with murder.  The victim was found dead near his home on Thursday afternoon.

Police say the victim was a registered sex offender. But, “that fact alone is not an apparent motive at this stage of the investigation.”

The suspect and the victim were roommates at the home Amelia drive in the Parkville Terrace neighborhood just outside the Cahokia city limits.

A St. Clair County Judge set Mohammed Abuharba’s bond at $5,000,000. Abuharba is currently in the custody of the St. Clair County Jail.
